Thanks for taking the time to visit my website. I'd like to tell you a little bit about myself. I'm a wife and mother of 3 young children, Matthew 13, Ellie 10 and Freddie 6. I was first diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2001 at the age of 36. Following Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy, I was in remission until a chance MRI scan in Feb 2005 for an unrelated problem, detected that the Cancer had returned. I was then diagnosed with Secondary Breast Cancer. The likely prognosis given in February was 18 months to 5 years. I then had to undergo aggressive Chemotherapy, but following the results of a recent bone scan, it was found that the Cancer is still spreading.
The treatment in Germany will cost thousands of pounds and for most people like myself, the opportunity for this is a dream. Many of my Family and Friends want to make this dream a reality and are making tremendous fund raising efforts, because without them, I would not be able to seek the treatment that I so obviously need and which is not being offered in this country.
Saw Dr Chadwick today, nothing to report although he did say that we need to organise a liver ultrasound for May to see how the liver tumours are doing.
I had a 9.30 appointment with the Oncologist and then went up to the chemo ward to have Avastin and pamidronate. Just about got out of the hospital by 3pm. Had to ring the school because I thought I was going to be a little late collecting Freddie but made it just in time.
Had my first Faslodex injection today. The needle was enormous and had to be injected into my butt cheek very slowly. Not the most painless injection I've had!
It's a hormonal treatment to replace the Aromosin daily tablet I was taking which had obviously failed to work seeing as I now have spread to the Liver.
The Faslodex is a medicine that blocks some of the actions of the female sex hormone oestrogen within the body. Oestrogen is involved in maintaining the growth of organs such as the breast, uterus and bone. Oestrogen is linked to the growth of breast cancer.
Common side effects are hot flushes, headaches and weakness and tiredness. No change there then, I'm always getting a variety of the side effects!
Another fund raiser
I held a Jewellery party last night to help raise funds for Wigs to Wishes. Thanks to all my friends and their friends who attended. It was a really busy evening and we managed to raise £180 in total, taken from the commission from the sale of jewellery and the raffle. Thanks also to those who contributed a raffle prize.
Today, I've spent the majority of the day in bed! I felt like I had a hangover with a massive headache and feeling sick. Thing is, I didn't touch a drop of alcohol, in fact I didn't really have time for a drink at all as it was such a busy night. Maybe this is a side effect from the Avastin I had on Wednesday.
